Terminal 2 (T2), Hong Kong International Airport

Basic Overview
Terminal 2 (T2) of Hong Kong International Airport is located at Chek Lap Kok, Lantau Island. It is a key integrated terminal redeveloped for the airport’s Three-Runway System (3RS).
The original T2 opened in February 2007, initially only providing check-in services without boarding gates or arrival facilities. It closed for full redevelopment in November 2019 at a cost of HK$12.9 billion, with a phased opening schedule:
September 2025: The Coach Hall commenced operation
27 May 2026: The new Departure Hall (check-in / security / immigration) officially opened
Late 2026: The full concourse, boarding gates and arrival areas will be fully operational
The redeveloped T2 has a total floor area of about 300,000 m², with an initial annual passenger capacity of 15 million and a mid-term capacity of 30 million passengers. It features 28 boarding gates, including 34 contact stands and 29 remote aircraft stands.
Positioning & Core Functions
Positioned as a smart, vibrant, leisure-focused terminal, it mainly serves low-cost carriers and short-haul regional flights. Around 15 airlines are stationed here (including HK Express, Hong Kong Airlines), diverting approximately 20% of the airport’s passenger flow and allowing Terminal 1 to focus on long-haul premium international routes.
It is seamlessly connected to Terminal 1, Airport Express, SkyPier Ferry Terminal and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge port. The on-site large cross-border coach terminal has 41 bus bays for cross-border coaches, Hong Kong-Macau shuttles and hotel courtesy buses.
Retail & Amenities
It offers trendy retail outlets, international F&B and leisure facilities, directly linked to the large-scale commercial complex 11 SKIES, creating an integrated "airport + shopping" lifestyle destination, known as the "airport version of K11".
Smart & Passenger-Friendly Facilities
Equipped with full-process self-service systems: abundant self-check-in and self-bag-drop kiosks, multi-language support, and WeChat/Alipay payment options.
Full 5G coverage and intelligent indoor navigation are available. Facial recognition biometric paperless travel speeds up departure procedures.
Complete barrier-free facilities, nursing rooms, prayer rooms, charging and rest zones are provided for passenger comfort.
